After his wife Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, Bob Carey decided it would become his mission to cheer her up – by taking pictures of himself wearing a pink tutu. Since then, Bob, a professional photographer based in New York, has traveled the world taking photos of himself posing in his pink tutu.

Bob’s project went viral, and he eventually self-published the book Ballerina, which contains photos of Bob in his tutu at locations around the world.

According to the couple’s website, proceeds from Ballerina benefit The Carey Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization started by the couple in 2012.  The Carey Foundation helps provide support to women diagnosed with breast cancer, their families and survivors.
Linda said the photos have helped her keep an upbeat attitude during her cancer treatments.
"It helps me be positive, the more I laugh, the better I feel," Linda said in a YouTube video.
Though Linda beat her initial bout with cancer, the disease returned in 2006, according to the Los Angeles Times. Unfortunately, the cancer had spread to Linda’s liver and was deemed “incurable.”
"Her cancer taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing — no, the only thing — we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others,” Bob told the LA Times.
