Belgium Verviers plot 'aimed to kill police'

A suspected jihadist group targeted in a major anti-terror raid on Thursday had been planning to kill policemen in the street and at police stations, Belgian prosecutors say.
The planned attacks were imminent, they said, adding that two suspects shot dead in Verviers during the raids were still being identified.

NEW BIRD FLU OUTBREAK IN LAGOS AND KANO

 
There is currently big fear in Kano and Lagos states following the reported case of bird flu by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to the ministry, the bird’s blood samples forwarded to the National Veterinary Research Institute tested positive for H5 Strain of Avian Influenza virus, otherwise known as bird flu, adding that another confirmatory samples were sent to the International Reference Laboratory in Padova, Italy for further characterisation.

Cholera Outbreak in Rivers, Kills 20

DR. SAMPSON PARKER, RIVERS COMMISSIONER FOR HEALTH
The Commissioner for Health in Rivers, Sampson Parker, on Wednesday said that cholera outbreak in 11 communities in the state had claimed 20 lives.
Mr. Parker told journalists in Port Harcourt after visiting the affected communities in Andoni Local Government Area that the outbreak was reported on January 5.

Police IG Orders AIGs, CPs To Secure Arms, Ammunition

The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has again ordered commanding officers nationwide to take measures to secure arms and ammunition at police commands, formations and units nationwide.
Mr. Abba, in a statement issued by the force spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Thursday ordered Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of the states to ensure this.

A group of concerned youths in Bayelsa State under the aegis of Bayelsa Youth Vanguard, has threatened to disrupt the Peoples Democratic Party presidential rally if the First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, accompanies her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan.
The president’s campaign rally is slated for February 5 in the state capital, Yenagoa.
The youth, therefore, warned Mrs. Jonathan not to accompany her husband for the presidential campaign.

Robbery In First Bank Ondo: 15 Killed (Photo)

It was a bloody day at Ikare Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government on Monday as armed robbers killed 15 persons in a daylight operation.
The attacked bank was the First Bank, which was equally attacked in 2013 along with two others and which led to closure of banking business in the commercial city for several months.
