The Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has again ordered commanding officers nationwide to take measures to secure arms and ammunition at police commands, formations and units nationwide.
Mr. Abba, in a statement issued by the force spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, on Thursday ordered Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of the states to ensure this.

He said such measures became imperative to ward off possible attempt by hoodlums or men of the underworld to attack police stations and other installations.
He further directed the commissioners to beef up security at banks within their jurisdictions and collaborate with the banks’ authorities and officials to secure their premises.
Mr. Abba urged the public to collaborate with the force in its determined efforts to stamp out crimes and ensure the safety of all Nigerians and foreigners alike to enable them go about their normal businesses.
The IG, in 2014, ordered an audit of police armouries nationwide with a view to securing arms and ammunition. He said the measure was to provide safety and security in all communities across the nation.
